Attendance Procedures at August Martin High School
Excellent Attendance is a standard for success
All students are to report to school at 7:30 a.m.
- Official attendance is taken during the 3rd period. If a student is not present in his/her 3rd period
class, he/she will be marked absent for the day, and a phone call will be placed to the home.
- Attendance is also taken in each subject class.
- If a student is late or absent, he/she must bring a note from a parent or a physician. The note
must then be signed by all the subject teachers and then be brought to the Attendance Office.
- A parent who needs a letter of verification stating that a his/her child goes to August Martin High
School can obtain it from the Attendance Office in the morning. The parent will receive the letter
within 24 hours at the end of 8th period. The parent does not have to come to the school. The
letter will be given to the student. However, the student must have a satisfactory record of
attendance.
- Students may not leave the building during the school day without a parent escort. An early
dismissal slip will be obtained from the Attendance Office permitting the student to leave the
building ONLY when a parent comes to pick up the student.
- If a student is ill, he/she must go see the nurse who will call his/her
parent or guardian. The student will then be sent to the Attendance
Office for an early dismissal slip and to wait for his/her parent or guardian.
- Lateness to school is a violation of the Citywide Standards of Discipline and Intervention
Measures (Standard B4 – September 2004 Edition) and impedes the academic progress of
students.
Therefore, the following is the lateness policy for August Martin High School:
All students who are programmed for a first period class will arrive to school no later than 7:30 a.m.
Students arriving at 8:10 A.M. will be held in the cafeteria.
All students who are programmed for a second period class will arrive to school no later than 8:30 a.m.
Students arriving after 9:03 A.M. will be held in the cafeteria.
Violation of Policy
The first violation of these rules will result in a phone call to the students’ parent/guardian. A letter will
also be sent home and documentation will be kept on file.
A second violation will result in a second and final warning. The student will be called and addressed by
the Assistant Principal of Security or his/her designee. A letter will also be sent home. This letter will
indicate that detention will be assigned.
In accordance with Citywide Standards of Discipline and Intervention Measures (Standard B04 –
September 2004 Edition), a second violation will result in after school detention.
Failure to serve detention may lead to a Principal’s Suspension.
Auditorium Procedures for Students
