Dear parents and legal guardians:
On behalf of the administration and staff of August Martin High School, it
gives me great pleasure to welcome you back to the 2010-2011 school
years. We hope that everyone has had a pleasant and restful summer
vacation. Our dedicated staff at August Martin is ready to get the year off
to a great start. Our mission is to engage students in activities that will
motivate and prepare them to meet the standards of excellence in all core
disciplines.
As part of my first initial goals for August Martin student success, I would
like to build a strong partnership between all stakeholders, parents,
teachers, staff, and the community.
My theme for this school year is “Parents as Partners in Improving
Academic Achievement”. This was a theme used by Dr. Cashin three
years ago and I thought it was very appropriate. It is a theme that speaks
to the necessary partnership that must be fostered between parents and
our school in order to improve and enhance student achievement.
Therefore, parental involvement is an integral part of student success.
This year will be a positive example of the changes that are possible
when we take an active role in educating our children. I welcome any
suggestions and comments that you may have that will enable me to
accomplish the task at hand.
Furthermore, I would like to thank all of you for giving me a chance to
make a difference. August Martin is a great school of opportunities and
with your involvement it can be phenomenal.
Parents, do you know that our students are more likely to succeed when
their parents promote their learning outside of the classroom? Becoming
an active partner in your child education, both at home and at school, is
critical to raising his or achievement. At August Martin High School, we
are committed to making it as easy as possible for parents to get
involved, and we offer a variety of opportunities to participate.
To our dedicated parents and guardians of August Martin High School,
the staff and I would like to thank you for your help and dedicated support.
We, the staff welcome any suggestions and concern that you may have.
Remember, we cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can
build our youth for the future.
